Caveat to Section 28:The distance from the S.E. corner of the basalt pavement to the pyramid base is expressed three different ways in this section. The resulting values should be identical; unfortunately, they are not: Value 1: "E. side, from Pyramid base" (S. end) = 2148.0 Value 2: The sum of "S.E. corner to S. trench axis" and "S. trench axis there, to Pyramid", or 1022.6 + 1125.8 = 2148.4 Value 3: The sum of "S.E. corner to N. trench axis, continued" and "N. trench axis there, to Pyramid", or 1075.0 + 1073.0 = 2148.0 It would seem likely that Petrie's error is in one of the components of Value 2, although one cannot be certain. Prudence would dictate that a sufficiently wide tolerance be afforded in any calculations utilizing these values. — R.B. |
