Search Tips

Enter search terms separated by a single space.

Search results are returned according to a relevance ranking. In general, results contain all search words (logical AND); however, if many words are used, some may be omitted in the lower relevance results.

Plus (+) forces a word to be included in your search results. For example, +dog insures that the word dog will appear in your results. Leave no space between the + and the search term.

Minus (-) eliminates results containing the search term. The search query boy -girl will return all results containing boy that do not also contain girl.

Quotes (") allow searching for phrases; e.g., "casing stones" will return only those results containing the exact phrase casing stones. Plus (+) and minus (-) operators may also be used with phrases, e.g., khufu -"casing stones".

Wildcards (*) may be used in your search. Searching for *her* will find the words here, whether, together, gathering, and any other word that contains her anywhere in the word. Wildcards may be combined with the standard plus (+) and minus (-) modifiers, and also quotes for phrases. The search query +wh* -se*ch will find all pages which have a word that starts with wh and which does not contain a word that starts with se and ends with ch. "wh* are" will find the phrases where are, what are, and why are.

Note: The preceding search service has unfortunately been discontinued. To search the Petrie book, enter the following into a Google search box:

site:ronaldbirdsall.com/gizeh/

followed by a space and your search terms in Google format. Fine-tune your search with your browser search facility.
